It can be used in place of canning and freezing and saves so much room if you already have storage issues. NESCO offers this product on their website for $59.95.

I used the Parmesan Bacon Chicken Strips recipe as a guide (page 7) on my Pet Treat Maker by Open Country’s (NESCO) Manual. It was the least intimidating recipe I could find and I had all the ingredients. I used the turkey leftovers from Christmas instead of chicken. I also tossed in Carrington Farm’s Organic Flax Hemp Blend and plain yogurt. I never follow a recipe precisely.

Makes about two dozen bacon shaped treats

Turkey

Plain yogurt

Squash (also leftover)

2 tablespoons sunflower seeds, hulled, roasted

2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, dry, grated

2 tablespoons flour (can be wheat, rice, oat or barley)

2 tablespoons bacon, cooked, crumbled

I mixed the ingredients in my food processor. If I can minimize a few steps, I’m all for it. As long as the consistency is thick enough where the mixture does not fall through the vents in the bottoms of the tray, you shouldn’t have any issues with your Pet Treat Maker by Open Country (NESCO). The consistency of my treats were like frosting, making it easy to work with.

Fill up your “Jerky Gun” and let it rip. I made bacon like strips. I cleared out the kitchen table and filled up all five trays.

Dehydrate 3 to 5 hours in the Pet Treat Maker. When your treat is done, it should be dry, with no moisture remaining, and break easily.

Store in an airtight container. If not used within a week, refrigerate up to three weeks although excess can be frozen. I had no issues in freezing or storing these because my dog loved them and I’m a sucker for those big doggie eyes. Chance loved them and I loved the cost!
